Yesterday I played one of my worst rounds ever at Whispering Woods here in the Pinehurst area. I was strong off the tee and good with my fairway clubs, but around and on the green I was absolutely terrible. Whispering Woods greens are a challenge, especially the first four holes. The first hole is the toughest though. It’s only 309 yards from the gold tee, very reachable in two, but then the trouble starts. The green has a distinct slope from right to left. In all the time I have played there, I have never seen the flag anywhere but upper right. As a matter of fact, yesterday we examined the green’s lower left for old cup locations and found none. If you hit to the flag, you will most likely find you ball rolling left 30 feet or off the green. Once you are below the cup, the up hill putt must stick near the cup or you will find your ball back at the lower end of the green…it is a very unfair green in many ways. In the future, the best bet is to hit to the lower part of the green and take your chances with the putt up hill to save some strokes. If there is ever going to be a four or five putt in your game, it could happen on the first hole of Whispering woods. Needing all the help I can get with my short game, here’s a Jim Furyk video on putting Alingment. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Whispering Woods Warrior Club
Today is going to be another beautiful day in Pinehurst! I will be playing one of the more frequent courses that I play here…Whispering Woods which is a Warrior Course. Every year we get a fantastic deal through Warrior. As senior players, we pay $50 for the first round in January and we get a choice of a Warrior fairway club or a dozen Warrior balls, then all rounds are $25 throughout the year. Last year the deal was a Warrior hybrid of your choice and a dozen balls to kick off the year. Each year the deal changes, but generally always involves getting a Warrior club. The $25 per round is unlimited at five courses in North and South Carolina as well as one in Tennessee. You can get the same deal if you are not a senior, but the cost is greater. Whispering Woods isn’t the only course in the Pinehurst area that offers deals like this, so I will update you later as to other deals available. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
Whispering Woods
Yesterday, this average golfer played at Whispering Woods here in the Pinehurst area. WW is a Warrior Course and one of my favorites. It’s not an easy course as the Championship tees are 6324 yards with a slope rating of 134. White, gold and red are as follows: 6,028-129;5676-123 and 5,063-120. It is somewhat unknown here and the play is usually light and moves well. I would recommend the course if you are in the area.

Whispering Woods Super Deal
Here in the Pinehurst area we are blessed with a host of great golf courses. Most courses have great deals that everyone can take advantage of. Today this average golfer played the Whipsering Woods course and I shot a terrible round getting into trouble all day and setting a season high 104! Normally this course is easy to score on as it is one of the few courses you can play with three par threes on the front. Par those holes and your score plummets. While the score was bad today, the deal was great…pay $49, get your round of golf, a Warrior hybrid club of your choice, a dozen Warrior golf balls and lock your rate into $25 per round for the rest of the calander year! Now, that rate is for seniors, but now, $25 per round the rest of the year…how can you beat that. It’s not unusual to find deals like this throughout the area all year long. Tomorrow this average golfer will be playing Tobacco Road in Sanford for the first time. A short 30 minutes north of Pinehurst, it’s touted to be a fantastic course to play in the area. I’ll let you know how it rates tomorrow. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
