Grip Like Arnold Palmer

Yesterday, this average golfer played our Whispering Pines River Course here in the Pinehurst area. After conquering that course yesterday, I am off to the Foxfire Grey Course today. As I have mentioned many times in this blog, before every round I try to focus on one aspect of my game and make an improvement. Yesterday I seemed to be letting the club fly out of my hands a little bit, so today it’s focusing on the proper grip. I came across this video from the Golf Academy which talks about the famous grip of Arnold Palmer. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Chipping lesson

This average golfer played on Sunday at one of my favorite courses in the Pinehurst area, Whispering Pines. They have the River course and the Pines course, the latter being the one we played. I had one of the worst rounds of the winter golf season because my short game was terrible, especially the chipping. Before heading out tomorrow morning to play Hyland, I needed to refresh my mind about chipping. Here’s a video from the Golf Academy that I looked at and wanted to share for those average golfers out there struggling with this part of the game, as I am! I’ll let you know if it helps tomorrow…Happy golfing!

Pinehurst President

As I am enroute back to beautiful Pinehurst, I wanted to share a nice article about the President of Pinehurst Resort. I’m looking forward to getting back out tomorrow and playing the Whispering Pines River course. Happy Golfing from this average golfer!

Welcome to Whispering Pines

Welcome to Whispering Pines

Winter golf started today for this average golfer and as expected I was rusty. The Pines Course has a slope of 122 from the gold tees with a rating of 68.7. A slope of 113 is average, therefore you can see that the course is above average in difficulty. We played from the gold, but for information, the white tees have a slope of 129 and a rating of 70.8. Remember my post about putting? Today was evidence of how putting affects your game….I shot 101 (51/50) with 17 /21 putts! No three putts on the front and three three putts on the back! That tells me I was fairly good off the tee and in the fairway, but the rust showed when I got to the green. The short game has to improve! The gold yardage is 5965 and white yardage is 6409. Not a good day as I was above the average golf score of 100. Another bad indicator was that I only hit two fairways on the front and two on the back! Tomorrow I will be playing Pine Needles, one of the primer courses in the area.
