The PGA’s 8 Inch Cup

This past Thursday, I had a chance to be part of a test the PGA is doing on the possibility of changing the cup size from the now 4 inch to possibly 8 inches! We were playing at the Sanford Golf Club in Sanford, North Carolina. To run the test, they had two flags on each hole, one 4 inch and one 8 inch. It was really a weird experience. When you hit to the green, you had the choice to play to either cup. The 8 inch cup seems huge, and it is….double the current size. My conclusion is that it will really dumb down the game to be frank. I believe that it will basically eliminate the skill associated with putting and it just seems way out of line with the game of golf. It is only appealing when you are having a bad day putting and putting to the cup looks like putting to a bucket! Time will tell, but right now, this average golfer hopes the PGA will stick to the traditional cup and make the bad putters get better at what they do.

PGA Tour Through the Eyes of a 12-year Old and His Dad

Yesterday this average golfer was scheduled to play Pinehurst No.5 and give you a rundown of the course. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate as we had a steady rain so my round was canceled. Here’s another link from the Pinehurst Resort about one of their golf professionals I think you will enjoy. Until next post, Happy Golfing from this average golfer!
