Putting Alingment by Jim Furyk

Yesterday I played one of my worst rounds ever at Whispering Woods here in the Pinehurst area. I was strong off the tee and good with my fairway clubs, but around and on the green I was absolutely terrible. Whispering Woods greens are a challenge, especially the first four holes. The first hole is the toughest though. It’s only 309 yards from the gold tee, very reachable in two, but then the trouble starts. The green has a distinct slope from right to left. In all the time I have played there, I have never seen the flag anywhere but upper right. As a matter of fact, yesterday we examined the green’s lower left for old cup locations and found none. If you hit to the flag, you will most likely find you ball rolling left 30 feet or off the green. Once you are below the cup, the up hill putt must stick near the cup or you will find your ball back at the lower end of the green…it is a very unfair green in many ways. In the future, the best bet is to hit to the lower part of the green and take your chances with the putt up hill to save some strokes. If there is ever going to be a four or five putt in your game, it could happen on the first hole of Whispering woods. Needing all the help I can get with my short game, here’s a Jim Furyk video on putting Alingment. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Lower Body and Chipping

Yesterday we played at Hyland Golf Club here in Pinehurst. With the temperature reaching into the lower 70’s, it brought out a lot of players. My short game continues to haunt me on the links, so I need to work continuously on that part of my game. Here’s a real short video on chipping hosted by The Golf Academy and Jim Furyk. Happy Golfing from this average golfer!
