I’m going to enjoy the warm weather here in Pinehurst with a trip out to the Foxfire courses today. They have 36 holes with the Grey and Red Fox courses. Today we will be playing the Red Course. Improving my score has to start on the putting green and here’s a video with another short putt drill that might help sink those putts. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Fairway Bunker Advise
This average golfer spends some summertime up north and I find that the courses there have far fewer fairway bunkers. In Pinehurst, it’s just the opposit. Most courses have lots of fairway bunkers and a course like Talamore is noted for it’s bunkers. You also find a lot of sand waste areas here in the Sandhills. So, knowing how to hit out of those pesky bunkers is a must if you play in Pinehurst. Here’s a short video discussion about how to hit out. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
Learn To Turn For Power
Spring is starting to gear up here in Pinehurst even though it seems to be a few weeks late. Tomorrow, this average golfer will be playing at Longleaf which is built around a former horse racing training track. More on the course later. Here’s another Golf Academy video to help you make that all important turn for power. This particular video helped me realize just how much I don’t turn those hips and gave me a better feel for where that turn should be. Happy golfing from this average golfer.
Lower Body and Chipping
Yesterday we played at Hyland Golf Club here in Pinehurst. With the temperature reaching into the lower 70’s, it brought out a lot of players. My short game continues to haunt me on the links, so I need to work continuously on that part of my game. Here’s a real short video on chipping hosted by The Golf Academy and Jim Furyk. Happy Golfing from this average golfer!
The Swing Pause
It looks like Spring is coming here in Pinehurst, as the temps will be into the 70’s today. That means another great day to golf and today it will be at Hyland Golf Club. Before heading out, here’s a nice tip on pausing at the top of your swing. I think I’ll give it a try and see what happens. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

How To Shape A Shot
Well, the weather here in Pinehurst is rain and cool…not the ideal golf weather that we are used to having this time of the year. However, it looks like tomorrow we will be teeing off at Whispering Woods and Tuesday at Hyland Golf Club. Once I am back on the links, I will try to give my readers a nice rundown of the many courses that we are blessed with here in the Pinehurst area. In the meantime, let’s keep practicing. Here’s a video to help you shape that shot when needed. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
Working On the Partial Wedge Shot
While I have been off of the golf courses here in Pinehurst waiting out the weather, my focus has been on the short game. Everyone in golf knows that this is where you score…but, we also know you are supposed to keep your head down, but it doesn’t always happen. So, the more I can focus on the short game the more chance I have of improving. This video clip talks about controlling the partial wedge shot and has some good pointers. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
3 Drills to Make the 3-Footer
In real estate it’s location, location and location. In golf it’s short game, short game and short game if you want to lower that score. I can’t imagine how much better my scorecard would look if I could stop missing those short 3-footers which usually lead to three putts on the card. So, here’s some fun drills to look at and see if they can help with making those all important 3-footers! Another day off the links here in Pinehurst, but Monday this average golfer expects to be back on the links! Happy golfing!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been working on my short game lately, so here’s another Golf Academy video to help you work on your pitch shots. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
