Help Your Golf Swing With Your Foot Position

Over the years, I have tried many different foot positions when I set up for my golf swing. I’ve tried those positions because of different techniques I’ve heard other people talk about, what I’ve seen and what I’ve read about. The video below from the golf channel is one of the best ones I’ve viewed when it comes to explaining how to position your feet for your swing.  It may not be a fix all, but for me it has worked better than anything I have tried in the past. Hope it helps you too and happy golfing from this average golfer! 🏌️

Southern Pines Golf Club

Today will see a rare visit to the Southern Pines Golf Club for a day of golf. I say a rare visit because for locals here in the Pinehurst area, Southern Pines club has not been fee friendly. However, this year they have added their course to some local discounts and I expect they will get more play from locals as a result. The course is one of a few in the country that is owned by an Elks club. However, my sources tell me that it is currently being managed by another golf facility in the area and may possibly be for sale by the Elks. Years ago when I first started coming to the Pinehurst area, you could play this course for a very low cost if you were a visiting Elk but for whatever reason, that stopped happening much to the disappointment of member Elks. I look forward to today’s round as it always was a very nice course to play. Attached below is a rundown of the course and it’s history. I’ll let you know how the course plays at the end of the day. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Slow Mo your Shot

While we wait for the weather to improve here’s something to consider doing when you get back on the links. Slow mo a shot of your swing. I had one of my golfing buddies do this for me recently and it was really fun to watch. I was on the 13th tee of the Whispering Woods course in the Pinehurst area. You can view the video below. So, get your smart phone out, take that swing and have your partner video it. It’s not one of my best shots, just done randomly, and I am sure you can find several faults, but now there is a reason to review that swing and maybe make some improvements. Making golf fun is what it’s all about! Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Impact And Follow Through

This average golfer may just get out for a round of golf here in the Northeast today! It has been difficult not playing after a full winter season of golf in beautiful Pinehurst, North Carolina. Today will be a day to remove some of the rust after not playing for two weeks. I recently heard a golf instructor mentioning that one of the most common faults of amateur golfers is the follow through. I know that over the years, this has been one of my biggest faults…lack of follow through. My body wants to stop after impact and as most golfers know, that just doesn’t work very well. Here’s a nice lesson from the Golf Academy to help with the all important follow through that you can practice. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Hit The Low Wedge Shot

This average golfer is still being kept away from the links here in the Northeast due to the frigid weather we are experiencing. However, the coming week looks like it might be good for getting out finally! Oh how I am envious of my golfing friends in Pinehurst! In the meantime, all I can do is keep working on some drills to help make up for the lack of time on the course that will make me rusty. Here’s a nice video from The Golf Academy on hitting that low wedge shot to the green. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Albemarle Plantation Golf

Yesterday this average golfer played the Sound Golf Links at Albermarle Plantation near Hertford, North Carolina. Hertford is south of Elizabeth City about an hour from the Outer Banks. Many people told us that this was a tough course, but the slope from the senior tees is only 114 and from the blue and white tees the slope rating is 136 and 123. Many of the holes have waste/swamp area to carry, especially from the blue and white tees so the slope is greater from those tees vs the gold tees where they are positioned to take some of the waste carry out of the holes. There is a lot of water and some pretty holes along the sound and river. The prettiest holes are along numbers 16, 17 and a beautiful finishing 18th. Overall this course is average compared to most courses that we play in the Pinehurst area. Average cost here for non-members runs in the area of $54 but you can catch a free round if on a discovery package. If you are in the area it’s a course you’ll want to play. Today we will be working our way back to Pinehurst with a stop to play more golf at Cutter Creek Golf Course in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Legacy Links Today

In an earlier post, I mentioned about playing Legacy Links today and it was a beautiful day to do so. As I have mentioned, Legacy Links here in the Pinehurst area is one of the best. This average golfer is still struggling with my short game, but nothing in my game could keep me from enjoying the beautiful day as temperatures reached into the low 80°! Here are some photo’s I took today at the course and also a link to their site that gives you a hole by hole view of the course. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Winter Golf In Pinehurst

‘It’s the season for winter golf in Pinehurst. I must say the the weather has been less than cooperative to kick off the season. Mostly rain and cool lately, but that will be changing soon. This average golfer will be playing one of my favorite courses here, Whispering Woods on New Year’s Day! In the meantime, when you can’t get out, I recommend picking up a golf lesson book and keep the game going indoors. One of the best to do this with is “Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons.” This book is available on Amazon and is a great book to review your game with. I hope to share a lot of golf experiences in the coming days and weeks from beautiful Pinehurst! Happy Golfing!
