Gary Sheffield Learns About Core Rotation

This average golfer played at one of my favorite courses here in the Pinehurst area yesterday, Foxfire Grey Course. One of the bad habits that I often get into is swinging with my arms and not rotating that core part of my body that needs to give you the power in your swing. This was the case with me yesterday.  When you see the small golfers who can really get distance on their ball, it’s probably because they know how to rotate and use that core power. Here’s a great video from the Golf Academy to help you learn this rotation and impact with the core rotation. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Hit Like Jason Day

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Pinehurst, North Carolina and it was a super day to play the Foxfire Grey course. This average golfer played better as a result of being more consistent throughout the day. Any time you can be more consistent your game is going to improve without fail. Jason Day has a very consistent swing and here is a Golf Academy video that will talk about that consistency and how to make it work. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Grip Like Arnold Palmer

Yesterday, this average golfer played our Whispering Pines River Course here in the Pinehurst area. After conquering that course yesterday, I am off to the Foxfire Grey Course today. As I have mentioned many times in this blog, before every round I try to focus on one aspect of my game and make an improvement. Yesterday I seemed to be letting the club fly out of my hands a little bit, so today it’s focusing on the proper grip. I came across this video from the Golf Academy which talks about the famous grip of Arnold Palmer. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Getting Rid of the Snap Hook

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Pinehurst with the temperature reaching 81° and this average golfer played out at the Foxfire course. Foxfire has two 18 hole courses, the Red Fox and the Grey Fox. Having the two courses helps spread out play on busy days and makes for a nice round of golf. Both courses are challenging as the Grey has a slop rating from the white tees of 128 and the Red slope from white is 127. Gold slope is 122 and 123. An average slope rating is 115 so these courses are well above average difficulty. Every time I play, there is a part of my game that comes out as needing improvement. Yesterday, I was hooking some shots, so here’s a video that I took a look at afterwards to see how I can stop the hook today as I head out to the Little River course. Happy golfing!

Elevate for Easier Short Putts

I’m going to enjoy the warm weather here in Pinehurst with a trip out to the Foxfire courses today. They have 36 holes with the Grey and Red Fox courses. Today we will be playing the Red Course. Improving my score has to start on the putting green and here’s a video with another short putt drill that might help sink those putts. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Foxfire Golf Club

imageWell, we beat the cold weather that is approaching the Sandhills here in the Pinehurst, North Carolina area and got a round in today. Foxfire has two courses, Grey Fox and Red Fox. Our challenge today was on the Grey Fox. The yellow tees rate 68.3 with a slope of 122 and yardage at 5,864. The white numbers are 70.6/128/6,286 while the blues are 73.0/128/6,851. An above average course for difficulty. This average golfer shot a 49/46 for 95 but I had my best day this winter putting with 14 putts on the front and 13 out back for a total of 27! See, that putting practice pays off and really helps the score. I also hit 11 fairways today which is an improvement for me. The highlight of my round was a 70 yard wedge shot on No. 15 that bounced in the cup for a birdie. Foxfire is a beautiful, Gene Hamm designed course that you should add to your list of places to play here! Happy Golfing and I’ll be hitting the links again Thursday.
