As an average golfer, I need constant reminders about all aspects of the game to make improvement. I also know that the short game is always what makes or breaks your game for the most part. Getting to the green sometimes seems easy and after that the challenge begins. I recently played a difficult par four hole and was just off the green in two after putting together two nice shots. My pitch shot was over the green (3), next pitch was on but well past the flag (4) and then proceeded to three put for a seven!!! Sound familiar? Well, this would never have happened if my first pitch shot was accurate and near the pin. That pitch shot on to the green is one of the most important shots most days. Here’s a video that talks about a drill to help avoid those disasters around the green. I think I ‘ll watch this one often. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Hitting That Short Chip
Once again I struggled with my short game yesterday on the links. One of my golfing buddies that I was playing with noticed that I wasn’t accelerating through the ball on my chips. I was making a common mistake of stopping when I came to the ball, thus chunking the shot. It’s that fear of not letting the club go through the ball and letting the club do it’s thing that is causing my problems. After doing some searching, I found a video that addresses this very problem. Now it’s off to the practice green to build some confidence in my short game. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
Lower Body and Chipping
Yesterday we played at Hyland Golf Club here in Pinehurst. With the temperature reaching into the lower 70’s, it brought out a lot of players. My short game continues to haunt me on the links, so I need to work continuously on that part of my game. Here’s a real short video on chipping hosted by The Golf Academy and Jim Furyk. Chip Tip
Wow, how many strokes could we take off the card if we had a better short game? That’s what my golf buddies and I ask ourselves way too many times. I learned a long time ago to chip with my 8 iron around the green and it has helped me on more than one occasion. Here’s a nice tip from the Golf Academy that I will try tomorrow when I hit the links. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Better Chipping
This average golfer played yesterday here in Pennsylvania after two days of rain and wind that made the course tough to play. Lately, I have been off the tee good and the same with my fairway clubs. However, I have been losing a ton of strokes around the green with my chipping so I needed to go to the Golf Academy for some help. Here’s a link that brings me back into focus around the green. I’ll be back in Pinehurst this summer and look forward to playing some of the best golf courses in North Carolina! Happy Golfing.

Chipping lesson
This average golfer played on Sunday at one of my favorite courses in the Pinehurst area, Whispering Pines. They have the River course and the Pines course, the latter being the one we played. I had one of the worst rounds of the winter golf season because my short game was terrible, especially the chipping. Before heading out tomorrow morning to play Hyland, I needed to refresh my mind about chipping. Here’s a video from the Golf Academy that I looked at and wanted to share for those average golfers out there struggling with this part of the game, as I am! I’ll let you know if it helps tomorrow…Happy golfing!
