Today I played the Little River Course here in the Pinehurst area. We’re fortunate to have 40 plus places to play and often take our courses for granted. After our round today, we stopped in to the Derby Bar to have a cold beer and discovered from the bartender that Little River is in bankruptcy and is owned by the “bank”! That explains why we felt that the course needs a lot of care and maintenance. We have played here in the past and always felt that it was a great course and layout. It’s not easy, white tees have a slope of 132 and gold is at 121. This is the third course here that has gone into bankruptcy in the last year or so. The other two are the Carolina and now we hear the same fate is instore for Woodlake. Here’s hoping that someone comes in and makes a go of these properties. But, we are still blessed with enough courses to keep us on our game, including the now “9” courses of Pinehurst Resort. Happy golfing from this average golfer!
