When the weather is bad here in Pinehurst, we always say that it is time to work on our mental game. Here’s a great book from one of golf’s legends! It’s an easy read and can be bought on Amazon for very little. I always enjoy going back and reviewing his tips. Happy golfing from this average golfer!

Pinehurst No. 2 is Number 3
Here’s a quick video noting that Pinehurst No. 2 has made the top 10 of public courses, coming in at number 3. Like the rest of the east cost, it’s cold here in Pinehurst. It doesn’t look like there will be many on the links here this week, but Happy Golfing from this average golfer!

The PGA’s 8 Inch Cup
This past Thursday, I had a chance to be part of a test the PGA is doing on the possibility of changing the cup size from the now 4 inch to possibly 8 inches! We were playing at the Sanford Golf Club in Sanford, North Carolina. To run the test, they had two flags on each hole, one 4 inch and one 8 inch. It was really a weird experience. When you hit to the green, you had the choice to play to either cup. The 8 inch cup seems huge, and it is….double the current size. My conclusion is that it will really dumb down the game to be frank. I believe that it will basically eliminate the skill associated with putting and it just seems way out of line with the game of golf. It is only appealing when you are having a bad day putting and putting to the cup looks like putting to a bucket! Time will tell, but right now, this average golfer hopes the PGA will stick to the traditional cup and make the bad putters get better at what they do.
